Current–voltage characteristics of superconductor-normal metal-superconductor junctions

چکیده
We develop a theory of current–voltage (I-U) characteristics for superconductor-normal metal-superconductor (SNS) junctions. At small voltages and sufficiently low temperatures the I-U junction is controlled by inelastic relaxation time τin. In particular, linear conductance proportional to this regime can be expressed solely in terms dependence density states normal region ν(χ) on phase difference order parameter across junction. contrast, at large device elastic τel, which much smaller than one.

Size effects in the density of states in normal-metal-superconductor and superconductor-normal-metal-superconductor junctions.
The quasiparticle local density of states ~LDOS! is studied in clean normal-metal–superconductor ~NS! and superconductor–normal-metal–superconductor ~SNS! junctions with increasing transverse size, from quasione-dimensional to three-dimensional. It is shown that finite transverse dimensions are related to pronounced effects in the LDOS, such as fast oscillations superimposed on the quasiparticl...
متن کاملLimitations in cooling electrons using normal-metal-superconductor tunnel junctions.
We demonstrate both theoretically and experimentally two limiting factors in cooling electrons using biased tunnel junctions to extract heat from a normal metal into a superconductor. First, when the injection rate of electrons exceeds the internal relaxation rate in the metal to be cooled, the electrons do not obey the Fermi-Dirac distribution, and the concept of temperature cannot be applied ...
متن کاملResonant proximity effect in normal metal/diffusive ferromagnet/superconductor junctions
Resonant proximity effect in the normal metal/insulator/diffusive ferromagnet/insulator/swave and d-wave superconductor N/I/DF/I/S junctions is studied for various regimes by solving the Usadel equation with the generalized boundary conditions. Conductance of the junction and the density of states in the DF layer are calculated as a function of the insulating barrier heights at the interfaces, ...
